Corrosion is a naturally occurring phenomena that occurs when a material, usually a metal, deteriorates as a result of a chemical or electrochemical reaction with its surroundings. Like other natural hazards, corrosion can cause costly and dangerous damage to everything from vehicles, home appliances, and water and wastewater systems to pipelines, bridges, and public buildings. It is one of the issues that many various businesses and sectors encounter, and it costs society a lot of money, either directly or indirectly. Controlling and avoiding corrosion is one of the most serious difficulties facing scientists in the field of metal treatments and protection since it consumes around 5% of a country's overall output.
As a result, the corrosion control and surface protection department is one of the early pioneers in the use of traditional and advanced surface treatment and protection technologies. The department has extensive experience and advanced equipment’s, allowing it to play its intended role in applying various technologies to serve the Egyptian industry.
Electro-deposition, electro less, conversion coatings, and other various coatings are common techniques in the industry to protect products from corrosion. The department also owns the devices for these processes and the special devices for evaluation. Moreover, hot dip galvanizing is one of the techniques used in many applications, so, the department has experience in implementing galvanizing units and evaluating products.
One of the most important modern technologies that have different uses is the plasma-enhanced chemical- vapor deposition technology (PECVD), by which the coatings that are used in the preparation of solar cells can be provided. Therefore, the department owns the PECVD unit, and it also contains a unit to measure the different properties of these thin coatings by Nano- indentor unit.
Corrosion Control and Surface Protection Department (CCSPD)
work on protection of assets and environment against the ravages of corrosion. Additionally, reduction the cost through the different approaches like: In depth investigation of corrosion problems of engineering alloys and medical implants, coatings using different techniques, adoption of nanotechnologies, corrosion inhibition, cathodic protection. Furthermore, the department offers consultation on corrosion and coatings problems for all industrial sectors.
CCSPD also offer wide range of Technical Services like, Inspection and evaluation of surface treatment products produced by different technologies such as (PECVD, CVD, Hot-dipping) galvanizing, electroplating, electro-less plating, anodizing…etc, and making the relevant technical reports for different companies, microstructure and composition of metal surface coatings, corrosion testing and monitoring, evaluation of corrosion inhibitors, evaluation of coating layers, designing the plating units, and evaluation of corrosion solution.
