CMRDI history and strategy

In the early 1970’s CMRDI was just a metallurgical department part of the National Research Centre.     In  early 
1980’s,  with  the  help  of  the  United  Nations  Industrial  Development Organisation   (UNIDO),   the   different  
laboratories,   pilot   plants   and   administration   was established and CMRDI moved to its current premises near
to the industrial region of Helwan (Cairo, Egypt).

*  UNIDO is a specialised agency of the United Nations mandated to promote and accelerate sustainable industrial
development in developing countries and economies in transition. UNIDO works towards improving living
conditions in the world's poorest countries by drawing on its combined global resources and expertise.

During the past 25 years, CMRDI has made vital contributions to the development of metal, materials and welding
technologies not only in Egypt but also in Africa and the Middle East. Nowadays CMRDI is the most famous
research performers amongst Egyptian industrial sectors and build strong links with them: automotive, aeronautics,
energy, heating and cooling, water treatment  and  medical/dental  industries.  On  the  other  hand  CMRDI,  based 
on  its  well developed  international  cooperation,  got  modern  pilot  plant  machineries  and  equipments which 
helped  in  the  achievement  of  more  than  300  industrial  development  projects  on contract
